RIP Wordle

Well everyone, the world-famous Wordle game could be changing very soon. For those who don’t know, Wordle is a very popular word-based gaming that has been gaining a bunch of popularity recently, and it looks like it just got a massive update, the New York Times actually ended up purchasing this game!

Now, I’ve seen this happen a few times, a company purchases a game, makes some changes, then ends up ruining the game, in this case, I’m just confused as to why The New York Times ended up purchasing this game. It looks like they paid a “low seven figures” for this game, and I personally think that was a steal, this game has millions of active players a day, and it looks like it’s only getting more popular by the day. My question is, “why did they out of all people buy this?”, and I think I may have the answer. Personally, I think the New York Times may actually end up putting this game behind a paywall, just like how their website is (mostly) behind a paywall as well.

Although the future of Wordle is shaky, I am curious to see what they end up doing with this game…
